Be it families with kids, "mature paddlers" or even young couples who would like to relax to the max, everyone will enjoy this three hour excursion. Redesigned in 2005, Discovery eloquently combines two snorkeling destinations with leisurely morning paddling that avoids the crowds created by all the "other trips" departing Makena at 7:00-7:15am.

Once you arrive in comfort in leisure, Maui Eco Tours will get you geared up and the guides will take you through a comprehensive 15-20 minute briefing that covers everything from proper paddling techniques and snorkeling tips all the way to safety reminders and tips on getting in and out of the kayaks.

Discovery features a total roundtrip paddling distance of about 3 miles, which is a great length to have the excursion be easy, fun, yet still feel as though you've had a "complete" experience. Depending on which direction other trips are going, we'll be going the opposite direction first for what is usually about a 15 minute introductory paddling session. Over the course of the morning, guests will enjoy 2 snorkeling stops, seeing underwater sea caves, eagle rays, turtles, whales, dolphins and of course an amazing variety of colorful, friendly and fun tropical fish all within arms reach.

There's no need to deny it...the #1 reason come on this kayak and snorkel trip is to see the Giant Green Sea Turtles off Maui's golden coast. The peaceful movement of both the calm Makena waters and the graceful turtles will relax the mind, body and soul. Guests get very close to the turtles so that you're able to return home with the absolute best memories!

All through the trip the guide will be assisting the group as much as possible. From hooking all the kayaks together at snorkeling stops, to assisting guests with their masks and fins...it's first class service all the way through. Everyone who wants to, gets in the water and is free to snorkel on their own if they so desire. That said, the most fun will be had if you stay close to your guide in the water, as he'll be pointing out unique marine life, snapping underwater digital photos, and leading the way to the best regions along each reef.

All food is delicately and individually packed for freshness and ease of consumption.

Lunch selections are subject to change without notice. In addition, the portions are on the smaller side and it is highly recommended that guests with a large appetite bring additional rations and/or make other arrangements.

Is the Xperience really for everyone?

No question about it, the Xperience is for everyone! Children down to age 5 are allowed on the tour. Generally when the "lil' ones" come along they are not put in a position of actually having to paddle, but rather they are placed as a 3rd person between two adults in one of our larger Malibu Two XL kayaks. Kids love all of the turtles and sea life seen on this trip!

Is this trip just for kids/families?

Every single day adult couples and solo paddlers come on this trip due to its introductory nature that remains accessible to everyone yet still packages together two awesome snorkeling stops. Frequently people do this trip as a "starter trip" early in their vacation before taking on more adventurous excursions later. Overall the Xperience is a great trip for anyone, regardless of age, who wants to relax and take it easy on their vacation while still seeing some wonderful marine life!

Maui South Shore Makena Landing - 3 Hour Discovery Introductory Kayak and Snorkel Excursion

From West Maui (Kapalua, Ka'anapali & Lahaina): (Travel time approximately 1 hour) Take Highway 30 to the intersection with North Kihei Road (Highway 31). Proceed South to the end of Highway 31, which terminates at a stoplight in Wailea. Go left at the stoplight onto Wailea Alanui Road. Proceed 2.5 miles south and turn right at the blue sign that says Makena Landing. Proceed to the bottom of the hill and park anywhere. Look for the Maui Eco Tour guides with blue polo shirts and the white van and blue kayaks!

From South Maui (Kihei and Wailea): (Travel time approximately 10 minutes) Proceed south on either Highway 31 (inland) or South Kihei Road (oceanside). You'll run into the stoplight in Wailea that is in front of the "Shops at Wailea." Go South on Wailea Alanui Road. Proceed 2.5 miles and turn right at the blue sign that says Makena Landing. Proceed to the bottom of the hill and park anywhere. Look for the Maui Eco Tours guides with blue polo shirts and the white van and blue kayaks!

Guests should meet at this address 15 minutes prior to departure.

This tour must be booked at least 48 hours in advance of your travel date. Your confirmation for this product will be received within 12- 24 hours subject to availability.

Cancellation and No Show Policy:

There is no charge for cancellations prior to 48 hours before the tour departure date. Tours canceled within 48 hours of the departure date and no-shows will be subject to a $25 fee to cover fixed costs.

Recommended for all Maui Eco Tours: Bathing suit, towel, sunscreen, visors, sunglasses, water shoes or sandals that fasten, underwater camera, extra food/snacks.
